Do you have to learn Japanese?

While Mikao Usui was the discoverer/founder of Reiki and he was Japanese, you don't need to speak or read Japaense to practice Reiki. In classes the Japanese terms are taught as well as the English translations to continue the Usui Ryoho tradition. The symbols however are only spoken or written in the original Japanese. The pronounciation and ways to draw them are broken down for easy learning and recall in class.
